- GREAT CHEROKEE TOMAHAWK, A most unusual item to describe as
this tomahawk. Dates in terms of manufacture to the late 1790's
to the early 1820's. 2" X 5" hand-wrought blade of
the pipe tomahawk with the added bowl missing either by use or
intention. Forge marks are obvious in the blade which has a great
tapered appearance (see Neumann 45A for similar style). The hardwood
handle is engraved "1820 (Star) Cherokee Indian -
1941", placing the handle's date to 1941, but the blade
is absolutely early 19th Century. The handle is hardwood with some
restoration and was probably a later replacement, but gives a great
provenance to the Cherokee Nation. Ex-Tom Wnuck

REVOLUTIONARY
WAR SWORDS
134
- OFFICER'S SHORT SABER, Revolutionary War, 1750 - 1780,
27.5" blade with 6" handle. A most unusual sword at first
glance. English, but upon closer observation could be an American
spinoff. The sword had a "D" guard in the
popular 4 slot pattern made of iron with faceted decorative trim. The
blade is a English marked straight blade with English coat of arms on
both sides and one fuller. The pommel is iron and is also faceted like
the guard. The plain wooden hardwood handle looks like an American add
on. Often English marked blades were reused or imported. Blade shows
some wear, but the coat of arms are sharp and clear. Very
attractive........................................$1,250.00
